Machzor for the Three Festivals, in Spanish, Edited by Menasseh ben Israel – Amsterdam, 1650 – Printed for the Descendants of Marranos

Machzor / De las Oraciones del Año, Part III, with prayers for the Three Festivals, edited by Menasseh ben Israel. Amsterdam: Samuel Ben Israel Soeiro, 1650. Spanish.
Seventeenth-century Amsterdam was home to a large Sephardi community. Most of its members were descendants of Marranos who emigrated from Spain and Portugal a century after the expulsion. The present Machzor was printed for the members of this community who had lost familiarity with the Hebrew language.
That year, two additional volumes were printed, with prayers for Shabbat and for Rosh Chodesh and Festivals, and prayers for the five fast days.
On leaf 71, an Omer counter (engraving) – a circle divided into seven weeks and 49 days for Sefirat HaOmer, with a pinhole at center (presumably meant for a moveable pointer).
110, 112-232 leaves. Lacking leaf 111. Approx. 15 cm. Fair condition, several leaves in fair-poor condition. Stains, including dampstains. Extensive wear. Many tears, including open tears affecting text. Large open tear to leaf 9 (most of the leaf is lacking). Worming affecting text. Handwritten inscriptions. Original parchment binding, partially detached, torn and damaged, with worming.
