Attributed to Jacob Isaackszoon van Ruisdael (1628/29-1682), Landscape with Ruins of the Brederode Castle [Kasteel Brederode] in the Netherlands, and Figure with Hunting Dog. Oil on canvas. 65.5X56 cm. Good condition. Minor blemishes. Framed, 78X69 cm with frame. Jacob van Ruisdael, among the greatest of Dutch landscape painters in the second half of the seventeenth century. Mentored the painter Meindert Hobbema (1638-1709). A number of paintings of Brederode Castle by van Ruisdael and Hobbema are known to us. Provenance: Private collection. Purchased at Galerie Fischer, Lucerne, Switzerland, April 23, 1998.
