John Selden (1584-1654), an English jurist, political theorist and a leading Hebraist in his generation, authored several important books on Jewish history and law, including studies on the Jewish calendar, the priestly status, the laws of succession, matrimonial law and the political and legal institutions of the Jews (mainly the Sanhedrin).

Title page and last page slightly browned. A small tear to one leaf at the beginning of the book (pp. 1-2). Ink notations to several pages. Library stamps to title page and last page. New binding and endpapers (later black and gilt edges, matching the binding).
