Two essays by John Selden – a comprehensive study on the Jewish matrimonial law and Jewish laws of succession.
John Selden (1584-1654), an English jurist, political theorist and a leading Hebraist in his generation, authored several important books on Jewish history and law, including studies on the Jewish calendar, the priestly status, the laws of succession, matrimonial law and the political and legal institutions of the Jews (mainly the Sanhedrin).
[2] leaves, 136 pp, 137-144 leaves, 145-456 pp [i.e. 452. Mispaginated], [7] leaves; [11] leaves, 248 pp, [4] leaves, 19 cm. Good condition. Stains, mostly minor. Title page and last page slightly browned. A small tear to one leaf at the beginning of the book (pp. 1-2). Ink notations to several pages. Library stamps to title page and last page. New binding and endpapers (later black and gilt edges, matching the binding).
