Manuscript, Sefer “Matamei Binyamin”, sermons in Jewish-Persian on the Haftarot. Volume 1 – Bereshit-Bamidbar. Volume 2 – Devarim and Haftarot for festivals, including homily on poem “Chad Gadya” by scholar Rabbi Binyamin Zev ben Eliyahu. 1887.
Colophon at end of volume 2 (leaf 191/2), by scribe “Avraham son of Rabbi Ya’akov” who wrote the book for “fine, pleasant and sincere man… Aba… A. Yosef Yazdi… Adar II 1887”. At end of homilies on Haftarot (leaf 179/2 – 181/1): Detailed colophon with complete name of author “M [Mula] Binyamin Zev son of A. Eliyahu” and detailed lineage of copyist “Avraham son of honorable Rabbi Mr. M. Ya’akov son of Dayan Rabbi Mr. Yitzchak son of Dayan Rabbi Mr. Avraham son of Mr. Ousa Ye’uda” who wrote the book for “Mr. Aba son of Mr. Yosef of Yazd, who generously donated for holy causes”. Many signatures and name listings on inner binding leaves.
Two 22 cm. volumes. Volume 1: 302 written leaves (missing at end of Parashat Masei). Volume 2: 189 written leaves (missing from middle of Parashat Devarim until middle of Parashat Re’eh). Pale quality paper, good-fair condition, usage stains and slight wear. Coarse worn leather bindings, ornamented with etchings.
Additional known manuscripts of the book “Matamei Binyamin” appear in Lewinger lists, HaTzofeh LeChochmat Yisrael, XIII, Budapest 1919, pp. 187-188, no. 8, which mentions an additional manuscript of “Matamei Binyamin” which appears in list of Adler: Cat. Of. Hebr. Ms. In the Collection of Elkan Adler, p. 17 no. 173. [See attached photocopy].
