Manuscript, Sefer Etz Chaim “referred to as Toldot Adam - Mevo She’arim” by Rabbi Chaim Vital. Baghdad, 1748. Manuscript includes first five chapters of Sefer “Mevo She’arim” and from leaf 120/2 additional chapters and Drushim printed in other books of Rabbi Chaim Vital.
Ancient Ashkenazi writing. In middle of chapter 2 (leaf 48/2) interesting colophon of writer: “I, Yissachar Ber son of Rabbi Mordechai, have copied this Etz Chaim book of the Ari, for the perfect scholar Rabbi Yehuda Leib son of Rabbi Yissachar Ber Cohen Tzedek, 1748, Baghdad, in home of President Yisrael son of honorable Rabbi Moshe Mordechai” – the significance of this notation is that an Ashkenazi emissary on behalf of Kabbalist Rabbi Yehuda Leib HaCohen was sent to Babylon in order to copy manuscripts for him, and the emissary was a guest in the home of president of the congregation Yisrael son of Moshe Mordechai [his father, President Moshe Mordechai, is mentioned in chapter 34 in Tzdaka U’Mishpat Responsa by Rabbi Tzadka Chutzin (1698-1773), who served as Rabbi of Baghdad until 1743].
Beginning of volume contains 2 leaves in ancient Ashkenazi handwriting, apparently by another writer, which are not part of the book.
[2], 167 leaves, 22 cm. Thick and good quality pale paper, very good condition. Newbinding.
