Yesod Olam, on astronomy and Kiddush HaChodesh, by Rabbi Yitzchak HaYisraeli disciple of the Rosh. Berlin, 1777. First edition printed by Rabbi Baruch Schick, the Gra's disciple, from manuscript of the geniza of Rabbi Zvi Hirsh Rabbi of Berlin.
Signature at top of title page: "Eliyahu Vilna". We do not know if this is the Gra's signature. To the best of our knowledge, the Vilna Gaon's signature is not known at present. The book arrived from a family's private collection and they believed that this was the Gra's signature. On first page, inscription by one of the family members of the famous Gaon Rabbi Aharon Chaim Zimmerman (1915-1995), that "My father doubted whether the signature on the book… was by the Vilna Gaon… and I did not know or ask its source".
Another inscription in early handwriting: "I bought the book… Ya'akov Leib?".
[1], 93, [7] leaves + sketched astronomy chart [possibly a second chart is missing]. 19.5 cm. Fair condition, moisture damage, leaf cut on text, detached leaves.
