Will written and signed by the Nazir Rabbi, Rabbi David Cohen. Written in many installments, through years 1958-1961.
The main part of the will focuses on “Ma’aser Sheni” funds [related to extra tithing of money, up to 1/5 of the revenue], which will be given to “My son in law… for the purchase of holy books for him to use and have in his library”. He also says that after his passing “All the books in my library… Bible, Midrash, Tefila, Talmud and Poskim, Kabbalah and Musar books, research and philosophy and more… all go to my son, so he could read them and grow his merit of learning Torah Lishma”.
The “Nazir Rabbi” – Rabbi David Cohen (1887-1972), was a Gaon, Mekubal and philosopher. He was one of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kook’s disciples, served as teacher at the Yehiva Merkazit (Merkaz Ha-Rav). It is through his constant pursuit of spiritual perfection that he committed himself to the laws of Nezirut, abstaining from wine consumption and haircuts; he also kept a vegan diet. His son, Rabbi She’ar-Yeshuv Cohen is the chief rabbi of Haifa, and his son in law was Rabbi Shlomo Goren (1918-1995), who served as Tsahal’s Chief Rabbi of Tel-Aviv, Israel.
