First four volumes of the work "Religious Ceremonies and Customs of All the Peoples of the World", considered one of the central works on religion during the Enlightenment and including over 150 engravings by Bernard Picart. The work's first part is dedicated to the customs of the Jews and the Catholics, and features, among other things, engravings showing the inauguration of the Portuguese synagogue in Amsterdam, a Passover Seder, tefillin, a wedding ceremony, a circumcision ceremony, a Simchat Torah celebration, various ritual objects, and more.
Volumes 1-4. Probabaly missing two engravings. Approx. 39 cm. Condition varies. Good overall condition. Stains and creases. Small tears to margins (mostly to first and last leaves). Slight worming to two volumes. Bound in leather bindings (from the period), damaged and worn.
