Kore Ha-Dorot, genealogic chain from the sealing of the Talmud to the author’s time [1677], Rabbi David Conforti. Venice, [1746]. First edition.
This book is among the most important references in the historical study of Israel’s Torah scholars in general and of the Eastern sages in particular. The book was printed anonymously and some mistakenly credited it to Rabbi David Ashkenazi from Jerusalem, who brought it to print. The original name [of the book] is “Masoret Kabbalat Ha-Torah”, and the present name was given by Rabbi David Ashkenazi, who brought the manuscript from Egypt or Jerusalem to Europe.
The author, Rabbi David Conforti (1618-1690, Otzar Ha-Rabbanim 5001) was a Rabbi, a Posek and was well versed in Rabbinical history. Was among Jerusalem’s rabbis in 1661 and a Rabbinical Judge in Egypt in 1671.
52 leaves, 19 cm. Light, high quality paper. Good condition. Light moth damage. Stains. Plain cardboard binding.
