The author, a converted Jew (as he himself indicates on the title page), was involved most probably in pharmacology and sales of medications (mentioned in this context in the book "The Jews in Genoa" by R. Urbani and G.N. Zazzu. Published by Brill, 1999. Vol I, pp 301-302).
