Encyclopedic entries in alphabetical order, related to the bible - biographies, archaeology, geography and additional biblical topics, by Augustin Calmet (1672-1757) - French Catholic churchman, historical and biblical scholar. Calmet was a pioneer of critical study of the bible and his critical commentaries were widely studied until the 19th century.
The dictionary is accompanied by approximately 100 engraved plates - maps of Eretz Israel and the vicinity, views and sites (Jerusalem, Mount Carmel, Mount of Olives, Nazareth and more), figures, biblical scenes, Jewish rituals and customs (Jewish wedding, the Sabbath, and more).
