Twenty Three Bank Checks – Anglo-Palestine Bank – Type Set of Checks Issued Prior to the Establishment of the State of Israel

Twenty three checks issued by "Anglo-Palestine Bank", from the founding of the bank until the establishment of the State of Israel. Tel-Aviv, Jaffa, Jerusalem, Tiberias, London and elsewhere. Early 20th century through the 1940s.
Among them: three checks from the first decade of the 20th century; check from 1920 hand-signed by Meir Dizengoff – order to transfer ten thousand Egyptian Piastres to the archaeologist Yosef Algavish; check on a special form of the "Jewish Agency" – transfer of one thousand Palestine Pounds to Ein Harod during the War of Independence (May 1948); two checks issued by the Jewish Colonial Trust (that managed the bank in its early days); checks from branches in "Tiberias", "Hadar-Carmel", "Hadarom Branch" and more branches; and more.
Most checks are filled-in by hand, with ink-stamps and postage stamps. Some are hand-signed on the back.

The topics addressed in the speech, which was broadcast on the same day - May 15, 1948 - on the Irgun Zva’i Leumi’s radio station, Kol Zion ha-Lohemet (The Voice of Fighting Zion), are the victory in the War of Independence after the Holocaust, the difficulties in struggle, the need for a strong and well-trained army, necessary foreign policy with the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., and the return to Zion, among other topics.

A Brief Record of the Advance of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force under the Command of General Sir Edmund H. H. Allenby… July 1917 to October 1918. Cairo: Government Press and Survey of Egypt, 1919. English.
The report describes the progress of the war between the British and the Ottomans over Palestine, between July 1917 and October 1918, under the command of General Allenby. The report presents, among other things, the progress of the fighting, the various high officials, a list of the regiments, deployment of forces and amount of arms and ammunition. Fifty-five color maps depicting the progress of the British forces and the withdrawal of the Ottoman forces from south to north appear at the end of the report: from Gaza and Beersheba via Judea, Samaria, and the Galilee, and the capture of Damascus and northern Syria.
The Egyptian Expeditionary Force was a military formation of the British Empire that camped in Egypt during World War I. It was comprised at first of soldiers of Egyptian, Indian and other backgrounds, but after doubt was cast upon the loyalty of the Muslim troops, the makeup of the troops was changed, and replaced mostly with British and Australian troops, together with soldiers from India, New Zealand andFrance.

Kinnereth Development Company Ltd. was founded in 1934 by Hermann Badt for the purpose of purchasing lands for agricultural settlement of German Jews on the eastern side of the Sea of Galilee. Two years later, following the 1936 riots, the company went bankrupt and sold the lands to JNF. The settlement Ein Gev was established on these lands.

4. Pin – "Nautical School Haifa", with a triangle and a ship in it. It is possible that this pin is from the Nautical school of the Hebrew Technion in Haifa, first phase of the school for marine officers in Acre (prior to moving the school).
5-6. Two pins with the emblem of "Mevo'ot Yam" nautical school – anchor with a curving fish.
7. A pin designed as an anchor with a Star of David. Apparently a commander pin of Nautical Officers School.

Anachnu Sharim Lach (We Sing for Uou), gathered and edited by Yehudah Borochov. Published by Jabotinsky Institute in Gilgil internment camp, Kenya, [1948].
Collection of songs, typewritten and mimeographed, printed in the internment camp for Etzel and Lehi exiles in Gilgil, Kenya. The book opens with the "Song of Acre Prisoners" by Ze'ev Jabotinsky (composed while Jabotinsky was imprisoned in Acre) and it includes songs about life in Cyprus internment camps. The collection of songs is dedicated to the memory of Etzel and Lehi fighters who were killed in detention camps in Africa or in Palestine, after their release.
On the title page appears an illustration of a song bird in a cage.

Hovevei Zion Ledger – Handwritten Report – Odessa, 1888

A report, handwritten on lined paper, listing the income and expenses of the Hovevei Zion branch in Odessa for the years 5647-5648 (1887-1888). [Odessa?, 1888?].
The report contains two pages of expenses and two pages of income, documenting the donations and financial sources of Hovevei Zion ("Proceeds of the pictures of Montefiore", "For the Eitz Haim Yeshiva", "From the Nes Ziona Association"), as well as its activities and expenses ("for the son of Mr. Gantner of Zikhron Ya’akov for travel expenses"; "for a mare for Mr. Fishel Saliman of Yesud ha-Ma’ala"; "for the delegate that was sent in Constantinople to Baron Hirsch and the city’s dignitaries"; "for the printing of the public appeal," and more). A summary of the account at year’s end appears on the last page – a modest surplus of 160 rubles.
At the beginning of the report is a cover page with the title "Hovevei Zion Ledger", with three other reports that the movement published that year listed beneath. A note appears at the bottom of the page. It states: "Each part [=report] will be sent on its own… to the treasurers and to the associations that sent their money to Odessa and to Paris, and to the associations that stopped sending their money".

Rabinovich, an offering of memory on the day of his having attained seventy years of age. With respect and affection, Ahad Ha’am, Tel Aviv, 24 Shevat 5683 [February 10, 1923]."
