Map of Suriname – 18th Century – With Notation of the Jewish Community in Suriname

Nieuwe Kaart van Suriname vertonende de stromen en land-streken van Suriname, Comowini, Cottica, en Marawini. Map of Suriname, hand-colored. Amsterdam: J. Ottens, [early 18th century].
A detailed map of the northeastern part of the Dutch colony of Suriname in South America, identifying by name tens of plantation owners located near rivers and streams. East of the Suriname River is a settlement called "Ioods Dorp en Sinagoge" [Jewish town and synagogue], bordering plantations owned by Jews (with names of the plantation owners - Jews of Spanish and Portuguese ancestry).
The first Jewish settlers in Suriname, in the 17th century, were Marranos from Spain and Portugal. The Dutch granted rights to the Jews and allowed the establishment of an autonomous Jewish territory in Suriname called Jodensavanne (where the Jewish town of Joods Dorp was established). The local community engaged mostly in growing sugar cane.
Leaf 64X50 cm. Good condition. Some foxing, minor tears to the leaf's top margins. Two pieces of fabric glued to the back of the map, at the top margins.

The volume contains the compositions: Ethica, Tractatus Politicus [Political Treatise], Tractatus De Emendatione Intellectus [Essay on the Improvement of the Understanding], Epistolae… Et auctoris responsiones [Epistles…] and Compendium Grammatices Linguae Hebraeae [Hebrew grammar]. The text is accompanied by several diagrams and illustrations (woodcuts).

Jonah (Johann) Kremenezky – Draft of an Essay on the JNF, with Corrections in his Handwriting

Der Jüdische Nationalfonds. Draft of an essay on the JNF, typewritten on official stationery ("Joh. Kremenezky, Wien"), with corrections and multiple additions in the handwriting of Jonah (Johann) Kremenezky. Vienna, [1931-1932]. German.
Kremenezky (1850-1934) - a Zionist capitalist, industrialist and entrepreneur, a pioneer of the electricity industry in Europe, first chairman of the Jewish National Fund (in 1902-1907), inventor of the JNF's fundraising methods (the Blue Box, the stamps and the "Golden Book") and a close friend of the Herzl family (trustee of Herzl's personal estate).
The essay also concerns the JNF's fundraising campaign, and a variety of other subjects related to the Jewish people in Palestine and in the Diaspora - politics, anti-Semitism, the JNF and the Jewish religion, economy and immigration to Palestine. Among others, he mentions Ze'ev Jabotinsky, Chaim Weizmann, the Balfour Delcaration, the Zionist Movement, the Palestine Arabs, and more.
At the beginning of the essay Kremenzky writes: "From time to time Prof. Albert Einstein is asked for his opinion, as he believes the revenue of the JNF can be higher. He says: 'When we are able to receive from 16 million Jews even one schilling per year, [the JNF] will have what it needs.'"

A poster printed to commemorate twenty-five years since the establisment of Betar - a Revisionist youth movement. A colorful illustration: a boy waving the flag of Israel, on the background of a silhouette depicting a map of the Greater Israel. Surrounding the central image are images depicting Jewish fighters, a concentration camp, gallows, British soldier with a whip, and more. Over the illustration appears the Hebrew text: "Twenty Five years of the Betar Struggle: for a Hebrew Army! For the Liberation of the Homeland!... the Betar Struggle goes on! Freedom of Citizens! For the Termination of the Exile! Jewish Youth - Join Betar!" Yiddish text appears on the lower part.

Dieses spiel ist eigens fur familie dr Becker gezeichnet [7-Mill Excursion, Dice Game for Children… painted especially for the family of Dr. Becker]. Game board, written and painted by Peretz Ruschkewitz. Hand-signed. Tel Aviv, 29 August 1936. German.
"Seven-Mill Walk" - a colorful board game, written and painted by Peretz Ruschkewitz. Dated and signed by the artist: Fritz Ruschkewitz.
On the board is a route including 82 stops throughout Tel Aviv and Jaffa. The goal of the game is to be first to reach the end of the route. Each player progresses by throwing dice and obeying the game directions at each stop. The stop descriptions and game directions for each stop were written by Ruschkewitz on the right side of the board.
The game route begins at the "Levant Fair" compound (in the lower right corner the statue of the flying camel can be seen, and on its left - the "Local Produce" pavilion), goes on in the direction of Tel Napoleon in the north of Tel Aviv, passes through the "Seven Mills" site on the banks of the Yarkon River, and ends near the beginning point. Along the route are drawings of houses and trees, as well as various figures: visitors to the Levant Fair, Napoleon, a couple sailing a boat on the Yarkon River, and more. Beside stop no. 21 is a figure of an Arab wielding a knife (the game directions for this stop send the player six steps back, to stop no. 14).
As noted at the top of the board, the game was created by Ruschkewitz for his friend, Dr. Becker, and his family.
Approx. 41X51 cm. Thick paper. Good condition. Stains and minor perforations to board margins. One tear, about 4 cm long, reinforced with paper sticker on the back side of the board.

Itinerarium Sacrae Scripturae ["Travel book through Holy Scripture"], by Heinrich Bünting (1545-1606), German Protestant pastor, theologian and cartographer, born in Hanover.
This is one of the most important travel books, which, when published in 1581, was the most comprehensive and complete summary of Biblical geography. Since then it was printed in numerous editions and translated to many languages.
The book includes eight maps (one map is missing) - woodcuts - depicting the world and Palestine, including a map of Jerusalem and a plan of the First Temple.

"The Capital", by Karl Marx. Accompanied by 62 black and white lithographs, by Hugo Gellert; signed in pencil by the artist. Copy no. 41 from an edition of 133 copies. A dedication signed by Gellert appears on the title page.
Hugo Gellert (1892-1985), Hungarian-American artist, of Jewish origin; member of the American communist party. His political views were an inseparable part of his life and art. Gellert's anti-war illustrations were published in various communist and socialistic booklets and periodicals; Gellert also published his works in the “New-Yorker” and in the “New-York Times”. Gellert dedicated the illustrations for “The Capital” to his brother, Ernst, who died in a military prison in New-Jersey in 1918, where he was imprisoned for refusing to be inducted into the army, claiming to be a conscientious objector.
