· Second year: issues no. 1-52. January-December 1898. · Third year: issues no. 1-52. January-December 1899. · Fourth year: issues no. 1-52 January-December 1900 + special issue from March 1900 - "Agitationsnummer" - and an issue of "Die Welt" in Yiddish from January 1900 (issue no. 1).
The weekly newspaper "Die Welt", founded by Theodor Herzl, was published during the years 1897-1914. At first it was printed in Vienna, and from 1906, in Berlin. The weekly published articles about Zionism the state of Jews worldwide and Jewish literature and art, and became the official mouthpiece of the Zionist
Movement. 4 volumes, approx. 31 cm. Condition varies. Stains and tears. Dedication in one of the volumes. Issues of first year are bound with original wrappers. In the fourth year volume the wrappers are bound after the issues (at the end of the volume). Several detached leaves. Ink-stamps. Damages to bindings. Ex-library copies.

A large printed certificate, "Eternal Souvenir! Certificate letter from JNF Golden Book" (Hebrew). Design: Rantzhofer. Vienna: J. Lowy Printing Press, [between 1901 and 1904]. Hebrew and German.
Name inscribed: "Vaad HaGvirot LeChagigot Purim…" [Antwerp, Belgium]. The inscription was added in Vienna in April, 1904, several years after the foundation of the JNF. The certificate is signed twice (in Hebrew and in German) by Jonah (Johann) Kremenezky, industrialist and Zionist activist, first chairman of the JNF (1902-1907), initiator of JNF fund raising (Blue Box, Stamps, and "Golden Book"). 45X60.5 cm. Fair condition. Many stains. Dark paper. Creases. Tear of approx. 15 cm, pasted with adhesive tape (old). Framed.

Large broadside for hanging on a wall, edited by Hillel ben Shneur Zalman Epstein in Harbin. "Published by the regional bureau of JNF in the Far East in Harbin" (Hebrew), L.M. Abramovich Printing Press, [1922]. Hebrew and Russian (some English).
Portraits of Theodor Herzl and Zvi Hermann Shapira appear on the upper right and left corners. In the center – a large circle, supported by two columns on which the "JNF certificate" ("buy land in Eretz Israel") is written in Hebrew and Russian. Printed within the circle are the Isaiah prophecy (Isaiah 61:7, in Hebrew and Russian), the zodiac and a calendar for 1922-23. Between the columns appears a list of "institutes in the Zionist chamber in Harbin, Artilirisky Street 22", with names of persons in charge of each institute; below the list appear important dates in Zionist history from the first Congress to the British Mandate declaration by the League of Nations. Advertisements, mainly in Russian, appear around the lists. 54X78 cm. Good condition. Creases and folding marks, with slight damage to text. Stains.

The book describes the visit of Moses Montefiore and his wife in Vilnius. The name of the author is missing from the Hebrew title page, but appears on the English one – Chajim Salomon Eliaschewicz. Nonetheless, the book is attributed by some to by the Jewish-Lithuanian author and scholar Isaac Mayer Dick. Hebrew title page printed in golden ink. 62, [1] pp, 14.5 cm. Good condition. Stains and an open tear (restored) to first leaf. New binding.

Sefer Yalkut Zion, composed of three sublime essays… (a.) colonization of Eretz Israel, (b.) work in our land, (c.) Hebrew language, by David…Elazar Haim Yodman. Szydłowiec, Poland, [1926]. Hebrew.
Handwritten manuscript by David Yodman, son of rabbi of Szydłowiec, near Radom. The book, written in a rabbinic language, opens with an introduction by the author: "Presented…a book with matters from the Bible, the Talmud, both Babylonian and Jerusalemite…and some novellae…which prove how important it is to settle Eretz Israel!". The author continues and claims, on the title page, that he authored books titled "Sh'lal David" and "Nefesh David" (it seems that these books, too, were never published). In the introduction the author claims that he was imprisoned for ten weeks for supporting Zionism.
Rabbi David Yodman was murdered in the holocaust. This essay has never been published. 64 pp, 16 cm. Good condition. Slight wear at margins. Ink smears.

Archive of Avraham Druyan – Kfar Saba – Murder of Salia Zohar and Yochanan Stahl, 1931

A comprehensive archive of documents owned by Avraham Druyan, one of the founders of Kfar Saba, a guard [Shomer], one of the founders of "General Association of Jewish Guards in Eretz Israel" in 1937, together with Avraham Shapira. As a guard and being familiar with all the leaders of the Arab villages he helped a lot in settling disputes and solving crimes in the area. In 1931 he undertook the investigation of the disappearance of Yochanan Stahl and Salia Zohar in the dunes between Sheikh Munis and Herzlia, and succeeded to locate the murderers and the bodies.
The archive contains material about the foundation of the "General Association of Jewish Guards in Eretz Israel” in 1937, and material which includes documents in his handwriting, regarding the investigation of the disappearance of Stahl and Zohar. The archive also includes material related to the murder of three Jews from Yagur by Arabs in 1931; investigation of thefts and other crimes, among them murders; founding “Maccabi” Kfar Saba in 1929; documents concerning his activities as a farmer and some personal documents. Enclosed is a significant collection of newspaper cutting and some broadsides and documents connected to the matter of Jewish work in Kfar Saba in the 1930s. See also item no 80. The publisher, Maxim Sakashansky, also edited the first lexicon for art and artists in Eretz Israel "Sefer HaOmanut veHa-Omanim beEretz Israel" (1946). Broadside: 70X50 cm. Good condition. Alon Zehirut. [Printed on behalf of "Shay" ("Sherut Yediot"), the intelligence arm of the "Haganah"]. Issues no. 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8. January-October 1947.
Printed on the leaves are names and photographs of people who have to be arrested, deported, deported after investigation or warning, etc.
Adolf Eichmann appears in the last issue, since the "Shay" suspected that if Eichmann succeeds in escaping from his persecutors he might immigrate to Eretz Israel pretending to be Jewish: "due to his organizational capacities and rich experience in the Jewish Department of the Gestapo, and having the knowledge of the Hebrew and Yiddish languages, it is possible that he succeeded in infiltrating into the country". [7] leaves, 29.5-31 cm. Some leaves in good condition, with folding marks only; other leaves in fair condition with adhesive tape and dark stains.

Senior officials and "Shay" members, among them Moshe Dayan, Yehoshua P. [Josh Palmon-Pelman], Ezra D. [Danin], B.G. [Ben-Gurion], Israel G. [Galili], Yigal [Yadin?], Tuvia [Arazi], Emnauel [Yalan-Vilensky], Amnon [Zair], Giora [Zeid] and others were present in the meeting documented. They expressed their opinions as to the political situation and the state of the Arabs in the various areas, the Syrian Army commanded by Adib Shishakli and other Arab military organizations. 29 leaves (not complete, lacking at the end), 27.5 cm. Collection of Circular Letters – Provisional Government Resolutions, 1948-1949

A collection of duplicated circular letters (typewritten), "Resolutions of the Provisional Government Sessions" (Hebrew). May 16, 1948 through March 6, 1949.
The collection includes about 90 circular letters, some consisting of several pages, detailing decisions concerning a wide range of issues related to the young State of Israel: election of Dr. Haim Weizmann as president of the Provisional State Council (nine to two votes), decisions as to a ceasefire, supervision of deserted property, unblocking the road to Jerusalem and paving of the Burma road, the IDF oath and decisions regarding enlistment and release of soldiers, the resolution taken during an unscheduled meeting as to the ship Altalena ("decided to request during negotiations with the UN to unload arms and deposit them with the UN until ceasefire ends…"), matters concerning Aliya, and more. The collection also includes circular letters of unscheduled meetings and some other letters: a circular letter regarding the demilitarization of Jerusalem (July 1948), emergency regulations concerning imprisonment of soldiers and repair of war damages to houses, legal explanation of income tax law, and more.
The Provisional Government was active from May 14, 1948 until March 10, 1949, and consisted of 13 members only. This collection was, most probably, compiled by one of its members.

“Everything About Kfar Kassem” – A One-Time Booklet Condemning the Massacre, 1956

"Hakol al Kfar Kassem" [Everything about Kfar Kassem], a one-time booklet published, most probably, in December 1956, about two months after the massacre in Kfar Kassem.
34 of the villagers were shot to death in this massacre, after breaking a curfew imposed on the village without their knowledge while they worked outside the village.
When news of the incident spread, a gag order was issued, and Knesset Members from the Israeli Communist Party, taking advantage of their legal immunity, reported it on the Knesset podium. Mapam party printed the booklet on its expense in “Al Hamishmar” printing press, and the paper was donated by Uri Avneri and “HaOlam Hazeh”. Among the participants in the booklet: Nathan Alterman, Dan Ben Amotz, Amos Keinan, Avraham Shlonsky, Gershom Shoken and others. 8 pp, 34.5 cm. Wear and folding marks.

“Shoshanta” in English and French

["Shoshanta". Yoel Moshe Salomon and Michal Hacohen Printing Press? 1862?]
Twenty-eight lithographs of different sites in Jerusalem on a sheet folded in the shape of a rose (Shoshanta = rose). In this "Shoshanta" the titles of the sites were printed in English and French and the selection was meant for pilgrims (some of the places which are holy for Jews only, were removed and substituted by other sites).
The "Shoshanta" printed in Yoel Moshe Salomon's printing press in 1862 (with titles in Hebrew) was the first lithograph printed in Eretz Israel.
Through the great similarity between the Hebrew “Shoshanta” and this one, it is possible to assume that both were printed concurrently or almost at the same time. 23X23 cm (open). Very good condition.

2. Wooden box, Souvenir of Palestine. Within the box is a glass bottle created in Hebron with water from the Jordan River (most of the water evaporated), a sachet made of "Damascus Silk" with soil from Mount Moriah, a piece of clay from the Roman period found in excavations in Ashkelon and several tiny shells in a folded piece of paper. Enclosed is a printed tri-lingual booklet with pressed flowers from Judea. Box: 12.5X7.5 cm. Good condition. Small break.

Writing Box Made of Olive Wood – Eretz Israel, Late 19th Century

Fine writing box, made of olive wood, with carved ornamentations of sites in Eretz Israel. [Eretz Israel, late 19th century].

The body of the box consists of two parts: a writing box and a pencil case.
The pencil case for storing writing supplies – inkwell, pen etc., is divided into compartments and includes a locking mechanism (key is missing). Vegetal patterns and the Cave of Patriarchs are carved on the cover of the pencil case (with title printed in Hebrew). A frame surrounds the ornamentation created from inlaid colorful miniature pieces of wood.
The writing box has an inclining cover, which opens with two hinges and can be used as a writing surface. The inner part of the writing surface rises and reveals a storage compartment for paper. Behind a movable wooden plaque, in the back panel of the paper storage compartment, are two small movable drawers.
In the center of the writing box's cover appear carved ornamentations: Tombs of the Davidic Kings and flowers. The frame around the ornamentations is made of inlaid pieces of wood in different colors, some in the shape of a Star of David. Inscribed on upper part of cover are the titles "ירושלם" and "Jerusalem".
Side panels (on right and left) are also carved, with vegetal ornamentations and Holy Sites. On the right – the Western Wall and on the left – Temple Mount (Dome of the Rock). Height: approx. 12 cm, width: 34.5 cm, length: 28 cm. Good condition. Slight damages.

The album contains about 45 photographs of Eretz Israel portraying, among others, Tiberias (the town and its surroundings), Kineret, Bedouines near the Hula, Druze in Upper Galilee, Jordan River (next to Dan), the village of Jauni (later: Rosh Pina), Bnot Ya'akov Bridge, view from a tent erected by the travelers near the Banias and inhabitants living in the area, the Jordan River sources (Banias), Mount Hermon, Majdal Shams, and the travelers tent camp (some of the photographs are panoramic). Further in the album appear approx. 54 photographs from Syria and Lebanon (Damascus, Beirut, and other locations) and ca. 80 photographs from a Ski-vacation in Davos. Photo-Album – “Mem-Gimmel (43) Prisoners of Haganah” – Moshe Dayan

Photo-album given as a souvenir by "Mem-Gimmel (43) Prisoners of Haganah", [ca. mid 1940s].
73 photographs in the album, mostly photographs of caricatures of the 43 Haganah members, as well as group-photos, taken in "Mazra'a" detention camp near Acre, where administrative detainees were imprisoned during the British Mandate. Captions in handwriting. Several photocopies of newspaper cuttings are also integrated on the album leaves. Moshe Dayan, one of the prisoners, appears in several of the photographs.
The "Mem-Gimmel Prisoners of Haganah" affair shocked the Yishuv late in 1939. Forty three Haganah members were arrested while training as unit commanders, following a clash with Trans-Jordan Border Forces. Most of the members recieved long prison terms, but were released on February 17, 1941. Average size of photos: 5X8 cm. Album: 21.5X30 cm. Good condition. Stains in the beginning and at the end of the album. Torn tissue-guard.

Huge Collection of Photographs by Photographer Eliyahu Cohen

Album containing about 860 photographs, by photographer Eliyahu Cohen. Eretz Israel, 1947-1950.
Eliyahu Cohen (1910-1993), born in Dusseldorf, Germany, was a member of the youth movements "Maccabi" and "Blau Weiss". With the rise of the Nazi Party into power, he left his law studies and joined an agricultural training group in Latvia organized by "HeChalutz". Immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1934, settled in kibbutz Gesher in the Jordan Valley and worked in the Naharayim Power Plant as well as in agriculture; later moved to Kibbutz Ashdot Ya'akov. Cohen taught himself photography and used to travel to Tel-Aviv to buy photography brochures and meet with Rudi Wiesenstein in his studio. In his photographs he documented mainly agricultural work, structures in the Kibbutz and various Kibbutz activities, trips of Kibbutz members and treks of the Palmach Patrol Unit in the Negev.
The album presented contains photographs portraying trips in the country, tours in Kibbutzim and in various sites in the Negev and the Galilee, agricultural work in fields and farms, and more. All of the album's leaves bear titles marking the location, some with the date. Around 230 photographs belonging to Chief of Staff Mordechai (Motta) Gur (1930-1995).
The collection includes family photographs, childhood and youth photographs, photographs of squad commanders course in 1948, of operations in Qalqilya, Khan Yunes, El Arish, photographs with Yitzchak Rabin, Moshe Dayan and Shimon Peres, photographs of the Mitla, large photographs from Egypt, with head of Egyptian Intelligence during negotiations with Egypt and photographs after the occupation of the Old City in 1967, with Rabbi Shlomo Goren, in a formation held after the occupation, and more.
Among his roles, Gur, born in Jerusalem, served as the Tenth Chief of Staff of IDF, as Health Minister and Deputy Defense Minister. Gur also served as Company commander of the “Negev” Division during the 1948 war, a paratroopers company commander (led the company in most of the retaliation operations; was injured in Han Yunes and was awarded a “Medal of Courage”); was the commander of the Mitla Pass battle in the Sinai War; commander of the division which occupied the Old City of Jerusalem in the Six Day War; commander of the operation to release the Entebbe hostages, the “Litani” operation, and more. Unique Photo-Album – “Conquest of the Desert” Exhibition, 1953

Photo-album compiled by one of the organizers of the "Israeli Pavilion" in the international exhibition and fair "Conquest of the Desert", 1953.
Twenty-eight large photographs (20.5X25.5 cm) portray the various halls in the "Israeli Pavilion" and a dozen more photographs, medium and small size (12X6 to 20X17 cm) depict the visit of David Ben-Gurion and other senior officials at the exhibition. Cuttings from the exhibition catalogue are mounted on the album's first leaves as well as a document from a press meeting with the executive committee of the Israeli pavilion; on the title page of the catalogue appear autographs of some 20 exhibition organizers, among them Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett, Director of the European Office Edwin Samuel, and others.
"Conquest of the Desert" exhibition was held in Binyanei Ha'uma in Jerusalem on September 22 through October 14, 1953, and commemorated five years of the establishment of the State of Israel. This was a monumental project and was considered the first international fair ever held in Israel. A hundred and fourteen postcards (out of 118) with photos of Eretz Israel (photographed during 1910-1921). Photogravure printing was done by Jamal Brothers in 1921. The postcards were rearranged in 1990 when captions were added to each card. Each postcard is placed within a folded Bristol and protected with tissue guards. Enclosed is an introduction about the photographer Shlomo Narinsky composed by the photographer Tim Nahum Gidal. The postcards are placed in a fine case.
