Lot Number 174

Slichot – Venice, 1548

Yearly Slichot prayers as customary by the Ashkenazim. Venice, (1548). Adelkind Press. Many censorship erasures with ink, and completion of erasures in handwriting.
Based upon the Augsburg edition 1536, with the omission of Slichot recited in Ashkenaz and certain other Slichot. In their place other Slichot were printed as well as other additions: prayers for Brit Mila, explanation of significant words and instructions for prayer, some in Yiddish.
Various ownership signatures and signatures of the Sagri family members [family of rabbis and leaders of Italian congregations]. “Purchased from the funds of Yosef Sagri”. Listing of the question posed to Rabbi Yochanan Cohen in the year 1783. Listings of Slichot to be recited, and numerous notations in Hebrew and Latin (some erased).
131, [3] leaves. 20 cm. Bright high quality paper, good-fair condition, stains of usage and wax drippings. Restored damage in margins of number of leaves. New leather binding.
Complete prayer books from this period are rare. The last leaf in which the Kel Melech prayer was printed separately is especially rare.
