The author, R. Binyamin, Maggid of Zalozitz (d. 1791), was well-versed both in revealed and hidden realms of the Torah. A contemporary of the Baal Shem Tov and early Chassidic masters, he was one of the first disseminators of Chassidic teachings.
Ownership inscriptions and signatures on endpaper, title page, and other leaves.
46, 48-101, 101-108, 107-112, 117-118, 119-122, 125-126 leaves. Misfoliation. Lacking 1 leaf after leaf 118 (originally two leaves numbered 119; original foliation of final leaves: 117-119, 119-122, 125-126 leaves). 20 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains, including dampstains. Minor wear. Worming, slightly affecting text. Tears, including open tears to title page and other leaves, slightly affecting text, repaired with paper. Large, dark censorship stamps on title page.
