Copy of the rebbes of Amshinov, R. Menachem Kalisch and his son Rebbe Shimon Shalom Kalisch. On the title page, stamp of Rebbe Menachem Kalisch Rabbi of Amshinov; ownership inscription attesting that the book belongs to his son Rebbe Shimon Shalom on the back endpaper.
Rebbe Menachem Kalish (1860-1918), second rebbe of Amshinov, a prominent Polish rebbe. He succeeded his father at the age of 18 as rabbi and rebbe of Amshinov. The court grew considerably under his leadership, and hundreds of Chassidim accepted his authority. Just like his father, he was involved in charity and communal matters.
His son Rebbe Shimon Shalom Kalisch (1883-1954), author of Mashmia Shalom. Leading rebbe in his times. He escaped the Holocaust and eventually reached the United States, where many Chassidim were attracted by his great wisdom and exceptional love for his fellow Jew.
