Halachot Gedolot. Venice: Marco Antonio Giustiniani, 1548. First edition.
One of the first halachic works authored after the completion of the Talmud, during the Geonic period. The identity of the author, who is quoted extensively by the Rishonim, is subject to dispute.
Censorship inscription on final leaf.
On verso of final leaf, ownership inscription of a woman in early Ashkenazic script.
[2], 105, 107-110, 112-144 leaves. Lacking four leaves: [2] leaves of forewords, and leaves 106 and 111 (leaves 106 and 111 replaced in handwriting, in neat Italian script). 28.5 cm. Most leaves in good condition. Stains, including dampstains. Open tear to corner of title page, slightly affecting border. Old binding.
