40 undivided lithographic postcards with greetings from Palestine and images of the Holy Land. Publishers include Syrischen Waisenhauses (Jerusalem), L. Schoenecke (Jerusalem), Boulos Meo (Jerusalem), Pierre Michel & Fils (Bethlehem), H. Weickert & Enke (Leipzig), Hermann Hillger (Berlin), and others, late 19th to early 20th century.
Illustrated souvenir postcards from Palestine; including numerous color postcards. Mostly reading "Gruss aus Jerusalem" or "Souvenir de Jerusalem" and depicting the Dome of the Rock, Tower of David, the Western Wall, Church of the Redeemer and other sites. Two of the postcards were printed to commemorate Kaiser Wilhelm II’s visit to Palestine in 1898. A number of postcard depict other sites in Palestine, such as Haifa, the Sea of Galilea, Nazareth, etc.
Including a postcard with a panoramic view of Jerusalem within a scroll, considered to be the first depiction of Palestine on a postcard.
More than half of the postcards were posted between 1893 and 1908 (numerous postcards posted in 1898), and bear postmarks and stamps used by various postal services active in Palestine at the time and by local hotels (Fast Hotel, Jerusalem, A. & J. Morcos Hotel, Jerusalem, and others).
Size and condition vary. Good overall condition.
