Zecher Zadik Livracha, picture in memory of rabbi Zwi Perez Chajes. Vienna, ca. 1927.
Printed leaf with a portrait of Chajes, and sample of his signature in micrographic work (text in German). Under the portrait two branches and a ribbon hand-colored in green and red. The leaf if set in a special passpartout, on which a Maggen David and Menorah's are engraved, and the writing "Zecher Zadik Livracha" and in German "Oberrabbiner Prof. Dr. Zwi Perez Chajes" [Chief Rabbi Prof. Dr. Zwi Perez Chajes].
Rabbi Zwi Perez Chajes (1876-1927), rabbi, historian and researcher of the bible. Born in Galicia, where he studied in a Yeshiva and was ordained as a Rabbi. As of 1918 he served as chief rabbi of Vienna and established a seminary for teachers. Was one of the first rabbis who supported Zionism, and the first chairman of the Zionist Executive Committee. Died in Vienna in 1927. Buried in Tel Aviv
53 X 44 cm. Good condition. Restored moisture marks. Some of the gilding was erased from the illustrations.

Two engravings in books:
1. Shirey Tife'ret, second booklet, Naftali Herz Weizel. Berlin, 1791. Portrait engraving on leaf 2.
2. Holy scriptures, Five Megillot with Ashkenazi translation. Vienna, Anton Schmidt printing press, 1818. A portrait of David Friedlander preceded the title page. Friedlander translated into German Kohelet which appears in this book (other translations were done by Moshe Mendelsohn).
The two engravings do not appear in all of the copies of these books.
Varying sizes and conditions, engravings in good condition.

"From an old table". Single leaf place and date of printing not indicated.
On right side a printed letter sent by Rabbi Yitzchak Shmuel Reggio (Yashar of Gorizia) to his friend Dr. Zalman Stern of Berlin in 1844. Yashar writes that he is sending the portrait of the Rambam which he himself painted, for his friend to make reproductions of and sent it back to him. Yashar adds in German that he found the picture in "Thesaurus antiquitatum sacrarum" by Belasii Ugoliniwhich was printed in Venice in 1744.
On the left side of the leaf the portrait of the Rambam is printed with his biography in Hebrew and German.
The Yashar of Gorizia (1784-1855), rabbi, philosopher, Judaism researcher, Torah commentator and writer, one of the heads of Chochmat Yisrael movement.
26.5 cm. Good condition. Tears and stains to edges.
