Divrei Tzadikim prayer book, The Book of Daily Prayers, as customary in the congregations of Ashkenaz and Poland, proofread and translated by Yitzchak ben Uri ben Eliezer. Philadelphia, [1848]. First edition.
First Ashkenazi prayer book printed in America. Hebrew and English page facing page, with parallel pagination.
VI, 242, 243, [1] pages. Fair condition. Stains, some dark. Few moth stains, especially on inner margins and binding. Library stamps. Approx. 35 leaves contain tears restored with paper glue, some with significant omission of text. Original leather binding, adorned with etchings, damaged.

Poesies, Hebraice-Provencales du Rituel Israelite Comtadin [Poems, Provincial- Jewish], copied and translated by Dom Pedro II d'Alcantara - the Caesar of Brazil. Avignon, 1891.
Three piyutim (liturgical poetry) of Southern-France Jewish communities, in Hebrew and Provincial Jewish, and the poem Chad Gadya, with French translation.
The translator is Caesar Pedro the II (1825-1891), who was crowned at age 5 and served in this position for more than 58 years. Learned and expert in many languages (including Hebrew, Chinese, Sanskrit, Greek, Aramaic, Occitan [ancient language from Southern-France, on which Provincial-Jewish is based] etc,). The Caesar translated the book and published it in the last year of his life while staying in France, after being expelled from his country after a military revolt in 1889.
